Fiction on the Web is accepting submissions for online and audiobook publication, in the following genres:

  • funny stories - for when you need a laugh
  • creepy stories - to make your hair stand on end
  • fantastic stories - ghosts, swords, magic and fantasy
  • futuristic stories - many worlds of science fiction
  • criminal stories - crooks and detectives
  • real life stories - everyday life and relationships

I prefer submissions of between 1,000 and 10,000 words, double-spaced in 12-point font.

After submitting, you will receive an acknowledgment from Submittable.

You can usually expect a response within 30 days. If you are a patron, or you regularly leave comments on Fiction on the Web stories, you are more likely to get extended feedback on your response.

By submitting, you warrant that you are the sole copyright owner of the work, and that the work contains no AI-generated text.

Fiction on the Web is seeking volunteer readers for short story submissions. Readers are responsible for reading assigned material quickly and providing thorough and thoughtful feedback.

It’s a great way to get a glimpse under the hood of a literary magazine, gain experience, and encounter a wide variety of work that could improve your writing style and craft. It also looks good on your resumé.

The estimated time commitment is 4-5 hours/week on average. All work is completed online via Submittable and email.

Fiction on the Web cannot pay readers, but readers reaching service milestones are entitled to perks (3 months - free Fiction on the Web audiobooks; 6 months - free detailed critique of a short story; 12 months - potential promotion to an editorial position).
